After a comprehensive review of a multitude of SAT prep courses from both small and large companies, we have decided to rank the Kaplan in-person SAT course as the best course on the market. In making this decision, we considered important factors to consider like cost, student reviews, content review, books, practice exams, and test-taking skills taught on standards of both quantity and quality.
Highlights
Signing up for any of the Kaplan courses affords you access to a multitude of resources, including proctored practice exams and an online video library of content videos stacked to the brim on all of the SAT topics. We found their content videos to be well made and a time efficient way to learn the materials tested by the SAT.
Kaplan is known for teaching students how to "game the exam" and their SAT course exam strategy did not disappoint. On the side panels of their books, you will find several mnemonics, short phrases to help students memorize critical information. While have mnemonics in it of itself is not by any means unique to Kaplan's course, they have the most complete list of mnemonics, and that is not something that should not be undervalued.
While we think that the in-person course is the best option for this age group, we like that Kaplan offer a version where the students can log in and join the classroom from the comfort of their own home. This allows the students to save time, and more importantly, participate in a course that otherwise may have been too far a distance for them to partake in. One may also elect to purchase the self-paced course for just $299. We do not recommend this course, again, because this age group is prone to requiring the help of a teacher to help guide and add discipline to their study regimen.
With prices starting at $599, given all the hours spent with the Kaplan instructors (30+ hours), we think it is a no-brainer that Kaplan beats out any other company when it comes to price over time spent.
